The LORD swore to David
a firm oath that He will not renounce,
“One of your own issue I will set upon your throne.
If your sons keep My covenant
and My decrees that I teach them,
then their sons also,
to the end of time,
shall sit upon your throne.”
For the LORD has chosen Zion;
He has desired it for His seat.
“This is my resting-place for all time;
here I will dwell, for I desire it.
I will amply bless its store of food,
give its needy their fill of bread.
I will clothe its priests in victory,
its loyal ones shall sing for joy.
There I will make a horn sprout for David;
I have prepared a lamp for My anointed one.
I will clothe his enemies in disgrace,
while on him his crown shall sparkle.”

Silent eyes
Watching
Jerusalem
Make her bed of stones
Silent eyes
No one will comfort her
Jerusalem
Weeps alone
She is sorrow
Sorrow
She burns like a flame
And she calls my name
Silent eyes
Burning
In the desert sun
Halfway to Jerusalem
And we shall all be called as witnesses
Each and every one
To stand before the eyes of God
And speak what was done

Some verses from Scripture which illustrate the importance of Zion, its continuity, and which also confirm that the Covenant has not been annulled by Paul et al.
For the Lord has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling, saying, 14 “This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it.” (Psalm 132:13-14 NIV)
[Assignment: Discuss the implications for Paul's competence and his new-covenant doctrine.]
The king and his men set out for Jerusalem against the Jebusites who inhabited the region. David was told, “You will never get in here! Even the blind and the lame will turn you back.” (They meant: David will never enter here.) 7 But David captured the stronghold of Zion; it is now the City of David. (2 Samuel 5:6-7 (Tanakh))
[Assignment:What is the spiritual significance of Zion's history as a stronghold?]
So this is what the Sovereign Lord says:
"See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who trusts will never be dismayed. (Isaiah 28:16 NIV)
The stone rejected by the builders has become the cornerstone [of Zion]:
[22] The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. Psalm 118:22 NRSV
[9] He began to tell the people this parable: "A man planted a vineyard, and leased it to tenants, and went to another country for a long time. [10] When the season came, he sent a slave to the tenants in order that they might give him his share of the produce of the vineyard; but the tenants beat him and sent him away empty-handed. [11] Next he sent another slave; that one also they beat and insulted and sent away empty-handed. [12] And he sent still a third; this one also they wounded and threw out. [13] Then the owner of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.' [14] But when the tenants saw him, they discussed it among themselves and said, 'This is the heir; let us kill him so that the inheritance may be ours.' [15] So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them? [16] He will come and destroy those tenants and give the vineyard to others." When they heard this, they said, "Heaven forbid!" [17] But he looked at them and said, "What then does this text mean: 'The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone'? [19] When the scribes and chief priests realized that he had told this parable against them, they wanted to lay hands on him at that very hour, but they feared the people. (Luke 20:9-17,19 NRSV)
The NRSV translates Is. 28:16 thus
[16] therefore thus says the Lord GOD, See, I am laying in Zion a foundation stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation: "One who trusts will not panic." (Isaiah 28:16 NRSV)
Compare that translation with Tanakh's:
16 Assuredly,
Thus said the Lord GOD:
“Behold, I will found in Zion,
Stone by stone,
A tower of precious cornerstones,
Exceedingly firm;
He who trusts need not fear. (Isaiah 28:16 (Tanakh))
There is an assurance with the Tanakh translation of the complete trustworthiness of that 'tower', or lighthouse, or beacon which will stand on Mount Zion following the rebuilding of David's fallen Tent:
Indeed, the Lord has promised to raise a signal to the nations:
12 He will hold up a signal to the nations
And assemble the banished of Israel,
And gather the dispersed of Judah
From the four corners of the earth. (Isaiah 11:12 (Tanakh))
What could be better than the Covenant, standing tall, with its foundations sunk deep into the rock of Mount Zion?
Those who trust in the LORD
are like Mount Zion
that cannot be moved,
enduring forever.
2 Jerusalem, hills enfold it,
and the LORD enfolds His people
now and forever. (Psalms 125:1-2 (Tanakh))
[Assignment:Discuss Ps. 125:1-2 T]
What answer shall be given to the envoys of that nation? "The Lord has established Zion, and in her his afflicted people will find refuge." (Isaiah 14:32 NIV)
Zion, a refuge, picks up on the historical fortress captured by David10C (above).
For the Lord has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling:
14 "This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it---“ (Psalm 132:13-14 NIV)
Sing praises to the Lord, enthroned in Zion; proclaim among the nations what he has done. (Psalm 9:11 NIV)
A maskil of Asaph.
Why, O God, do You forever reject us,
do You fume in anger at the flock that You tend?
2 Remember the community You made Yours long ago,
Your very own tribe that You redeemed,
Mount Zion, where You dwell. (Psalms 74:1-2 (Tanakh))
2 the LORD appeared to Solomon a second time, as He had appeared to him at Gibeon. 3 The LORD said to him,
“I have heard the prayer and the supplication which you have offered to Me. I consecrate this House which you have built and I set My name there forever. My eyes and My heart shall ever be there." (1 Kings 9:2-3 (Tanakh))
For the Lord has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling:
14 "This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it---“ (Psalm 132:13-14 NIV)
With the ending of the age, Zion - which includes Jerusalem - will continue as the New Jerusalem.
Because of its evil leadership:
Then I said,
"Listen, you leaders of Jacob, you rulers of the house of Israel. Should you not know justice, 2 you who hate good and love evil; who tear the skin from my people and the flesh from their bones;
...
12 Therefore because of you, Zion will be plowed like a field, Jerusalem will become a heap of rubble, the temple hill a mound overgrown with thickets. (Micah 3:1-2,12 NIV)
O profane and wicked prince of Israel, whose day has come, whose time of punishment has reached its climax, 26 this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Take off the turban, remove the crown. It will not be as it was: The lowly will be exalted and the exalted will be brought low. 27 A ruin! A ruin! I will make it a ruin! It will not be restored until he comes to whom it rightfully belongs; to him I will give it. (Ezekiel 21:25-27 NIV)
As he [Jesus] approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it 42 and said, "If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace---but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43 The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44 They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God's coming to you." (Luke 19:41-44 NIV)
Look upon Zion, the city of our festivals; your eyes will see Jerusalem, a peaceful abode, a tent that will not be moved; its stakes will never be pulled up, nor any of its ropes broken. (Isaiah 33:20 NIV)
Look upon Zion, the city of our festivals; your eyes will see Jerusalem, a peaceful abode, a tent that will not be moved; its stakes will never be pulled up, nor any of its ropes broken. (Isaiah 33:20 NIV)
For the Lord will rebuild Zion and appear in his glory. 17 He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; he will not despise their plea. 18 Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the Lord: 19 "The Lord looked down from his sanctuary on high, from heaven he viewed the earth, 20 to hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death." 21 So the name of the Lord will be declared in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem 22 when the peoples and the kingdoms assemble to worship the Lord. (Psalm 102:16-22 NIV)
The Lord will surely comfort Zion and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing. (Isaiah 51:3 NIV)
Look upon Zion, the city of our festivals; your eyes will see Jerusalem, a peaceful abode, a tent that will not be moved; its stakes will never be pulled up, nor any of its ropes broken. 21 There the Lord will be our Mighty One. It will be like a place of broad rivers and streams. No galley with oars will ride them, no mighty ship will sail them. 22 For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; it is he who will save us. (Isaiah 33:20-22 NIV)
In that day I will restore David's fallen tent. I will repair its broken places, restore its ruins, and build it as it used to be, (Amos 9:11 NIV)
In that day the Branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land will be the pride and glory of the survivors in Israel. 3 Those who are left in Zion, who remain in Jerusalem, will be called holy, all who are recorded among the living in Jerusalem. 4 The Lord will wash away the filth of the women of Zion; he will cleanse the bloodstains from Jerusalem by a spirit of judgment and a spirit of fire. 5 Then the Lord will create over all of Mount Zion and over those who assemble there a cloud of smoke by day and a glow of flaming fire by night; over all the glory will be a canopy. 6 It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain. (Isaiah 4:2-6 NIV)
"And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.”
...
32 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the Lord has said, among the survivors whom the Lord calls. (Joel 2:28,32 NIV)
Then I looked up---and there before me was a man with a measuring line in his hand! 2 I asked, "Where are you going?"
He answered me, "To measure Jerusalem, to find out how wide and how long it is." 3 Then the angel who was speaking to me left, and another angel came to meet him 4 and said to him: "Run, tell that young man, 'Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the great number of men and livestock in it. 5 And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,' declares the Lord, 'and I will be its glory within.' (Zechariah 2:1-5 NIV)
"Assyria will fall by a sword that is not of man; a sword, not of mortals, will devour them. They will flee before the sword and their young men will be put to forced labor. 9 Their stronghold will fall because of terror; at sight of the battle standard their commanders will panic," declares the Lord, whose fire is in Zion, whose furnace is in Jerusalem. (Isaiah 31:8-9 NIV)
The sinners in Zion are terrified; trembling grips the godless: "Who of us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who of us can dwell with everlasting burning?" (Isaiah 33:14 NIV)
The word of the LORD came to me: 2 O mortal, set your face toward Teman, and proclaim to Darom, and prophesy against the brushland of the Negeb‡. 3 Say to the brushland of the Negeb: Hear the word of the LORD. Thus said the Lord GOD: I am going to kindle a fire in you, which shall devour every tree of yours, both green and withered. Its leaping flame shall not go out, and every face from south to north shall be scorched by it. 4 Then all flesh shall recognize that I the LORD have kindled it; it shall not go out. 5 And I said, “Ah, Lord GOD! They say of me: He is just a riddlemonger.” (Ezekiel 21:1-5 (Tanakh))
[‡ Teman, Darom, Negeb are three terms for 'the south'. The allusion is to Jerusalem (verse 7), which was always approached from Babylon by way of the north. (Tanakh)]
In the last days
the mountain of the Lord's temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and peoples will stream to it.
2 Many nations will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths."
The law will go out from Zion,
the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
(Micah 4:1-2 NIV)
'In the last days...' is an explicit statement as to the enduring nature of a Covenant defiled and trashed by Paul et al.
